Change Starts Now withdraws from 2024 elections, offers support to like-minded parties

Change Starts Now (CSN) has announced its decision not to contest the upcoming 2024 elections, citing logistical challenges imposed by recent Constitutional Court rulings.

In a statement released on Thursday evening, the party expressed regret over the barriers preventing newly established political parties from qualifying for the ballot. The recent Constitutional Court ruling has created a challenging timetable for parties to meet stringent requirements set by the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC).

CSN explained that they were unable to collect the required number of signatures from registered voters within the specified timeframe. Consequently, the party has chosen to offer its support to other parties sharing similar values and goals, with the aim of enhancing the prospects for political change.

While CSN will not be participating in the elections, the party affirmed its commitment to advocating for its Change Charter and urged South Africans to actively engage in the democratic process by voting.

Founder Roger Jardine emphasized the importance of a collaborative effort among dedicated citizens to drive positive change in the country. Despite withdrawing from the elections, CSN remains dedicated to advancing its vision for a better South Africa.

The Constitutional Court’s decision not to hear a challenge to the Electoral Amendment Act’s signature requirements further solidified CSN’s decision. Parties now have until March 8th, according to the IEC timetable, to gather the necessary signatures for registration.

This development underscores the complex landscape of South African politics and highlights the ongoing efforts of various parties to navigate legal and logistical hurdles in pursuit of their political objectives.
