Nine arrested, including two females, in bust of multi-million rand clandestine drug lab

In a significant crackdown on organized crime, authorities have uncovered a sprawling clandestine drug laboratory, suspected to be a superlab operating on an industrial scale, in Pulley Street, Boltonia, Krugersdorp West. The discovery, estimated to be worth millions, has led to the arrest of nine individuals, ranging in age from 18 to 55.

The investigation into the clandestine drug operation was prompted by allegations surrounding its activities, culminating in a coordinated effort by the Serious Organised Crime Investigation team. Descending upon the dilapidated factory premises, law enforcement officers uncovered a cache of chemicals used in the production of methamphetamine, indicative of large-scale manufacturing operations.

During the search and subsequent raid, nine suspects, including two females, were apprehended on-site, marking a significant breakthrough in disrupting the illicit drug trade in the region.

The arrested individuals are set to appear before the Krugersdorp Magistrates Court on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, where they will face charges related to the manufacturing of illicit drugs, a serious offense under South African law.

Major General Ebrahim Kadwa, the Provincial Head of the Hawks in Gauteng, commended the efforts of the investigative team, applauding their dedication and urging them to pursue the masterminds behind such criminal enterprises. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to dismantle the network responsible for the clandestine drug lab.

The discovery and subsequent arrests underscore the continued commitment of law enforcement agencies to combatting organized crime and ensuring the safety and security of communities in Krugersdorp and beyond.
