Verulam police station burglary: Valuables stolen, ongoing suspect search

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) has been called upon to assist in the search for suspects following a burglary at the South African Police Services (SAPS) station in Verulam, KwaZulu-Natal, on Wednesday, January 17, 2024. The incident involved the forced entry into three offices, including the Sector Managers, Communications, and Supply Chain Management offices.

SAPS officials, reporting for duty on the morning of the incident, discovered the break-in and the theft of several valuables from the affected offices. This incident follows a previous event in July 2023 when a Verulam SAPS-branded vehicle was stolen from the station. Although later recovered on Court Lane in Verulam CBD, the stolen police vehicle had its stereo and spare tire missing.

It’s worth noting that suspects had driven off with the police vehicle during daylight hours. Additionally, a hijacked Isuzu bakkie, recovered by Reaction Officers in Mhlasini, Kwazulu-Natal, in the previous year (2023), was reported stolen from the Verulam SAPS just a week later.

The ongoing search for suspects is part of efforts to address security concerns and criminal activities targeting police facilities. Authorities continue to investigate the incidents and work toward securing the affected areas.
