In an intense operation conducted in the early hours of Thursday, 18 January 2024, six suspects were shot and fatally wounded during a shootout with police officers. Three additional suspects, including a woman, were apprehended during the operation.
The police operation was a result of actionable intelligence concerning the whereabouts of the suspects who were wanted for a series of house robberies, murders, business robberies, and carjackings. The intelligence-led the police to a residence in Emachobeni, located in Inanda.
As officers announced their arrival at the targeted location, the suspects immediately responded with a barrage of bullets aimed at the law enforcement officials. In self-defense, the police officers returned fire, resulting in a fierce exchange.
In the aftermath of the shootout, six suspects were found to have sustained fatal gunshot wounds, while the police managed to arrest three more individuals, including two men and a 31-year-old woman.
