Sasol’s Priscillah Mabelane to chair board at Eskom’s unbundled grid company, NTCSA

Priscillah Mabelane, the Executive VP of Sasol’s energy business, has been appointed as the chair of the board for the National Transmission Company of South Africa (NTCSA). The move is a crucial step in the legal separation of Eskom into three distinct entities: generation, distribution, and transmission.

The establishment of an independent transmission entity is seen as a significant move toward creating a more competitive electricity supply industry.

The NTCSA, which has already been registered as a business and received necessary licenses from the National Energy Regulator of South Africa, will play a key role in the country’s electricity industry transformation. The separation aims to foster reliability, affordability, and environmentally friendly energy supply.

Mabelane, a qualified Chartered Accountant, is actively involved in Sasol’s transition away from coal reliance to green energy production, particularly in the realm of green hydrogen and derivatives.

The board includes other notable members such as Dr. Brian Armstrong, Lungile Mashele, Carmen Le Grange, Anu Sing, Nkosinathi Solomon, Professor Mark Swilling, Auke Lont, Professor Francis Petersen, Sedzani Mudau, Dr. Busisiwe Vilakazi, and Tryphosa Ramano. The NTCSA is expected to be operational by the start of the new financial year on April 1, pending further announcements.
