In a recent incident in Amoutana, KwaZulu-Natal, a 22-year-old Ethiopian national fell victim to a business robbery, resulting in a gunshot wound. The incident occurred on Monday, prompting the dispatch of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) to the reported shooting location at the corner of Fana Khumalo Street & Zondi Way.
Upon arrival, RUSA established that six armed individuals had entered a general dealer operating from a shipping container, where they proceeded to rob the establishment.
The assailants stole cigarettes, airtime, cash, cellphones, and a Flash machine. During the robbery, a single shot was fired, striking the victim in the left calf.
Emergency responders stabilized the injured individual on the scene before transporting him to the hospital via ambulance. A 9mm spent cartridge was recovered at the crime scene.
Authorities are currently investigating whether the perpetrators had a getaway vehicle nearby or if they fled the scene on foot. The incident highlights the ongoing challenges of crime in the region and the impact on local communities.
