In a devastating incident last night at the Popo Molefe informal settlement in Boitekong outside Rustenburg, North West, nine individuals lost their lives, including five men and four women.
The tragic event unfolded as a group, primarily composed of Xhosa-speaking individuals, gathered in a yard to share drinks, only to face an unprovoked attack by an unconfirmed number of Sesotho-speaking suspects.
The assailants opened fire on the group, resulting in the instantaneous death of eight people. Tragically, the ninth victim was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. Additionally, eight others sustained injuries during the incident.
