Nomsa Chabeli, seasoned marketer, takes the helm as SABC’s GCEO

The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has officially appointed Nomsa Chabeli as its new Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO). With a career spanning over two decades, Chabeli brings a wealth of experience from prominent organizations, including MTN and Multichoice, where she held key positions such as Marketing Director of SuperSport and later overseeing the DStv portfolio.

Throughout her career, Chabeli has also made significant contributions to organizations such as SAB, Brand South Africa, GCIS, and Edcon. Her expertise extends to developing compelling brand messaging that resonates with a diverse customer base. Additionally, she has demonstrated a keen ability to lead market intelligence activities, identifying trends, understanding customer behaviors, and staying attuned to emerging technologies.

At MTN South Africa, Chabeli played a pivotal role in steering MTN to become South Africa’s most valuable brand, earning the title of Brand of the Year in the 2022 Brand Finance South Africa 100 report. Known for her groundbreaking marketing innovations and fostering a culture of creativity, Chabeli has not only elevated the brands under her care but has also left a lasting impact on the industry.

Chabeli’s illustrious career includes notable achievements, such as spearheading the marketing and communications for the successful 2010 World Cup Bid, contributing as the Marketing Director of the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2003, and developing and executing South Africa’s communications and marketing strategy for various Davos World Economic Forums. She holds an MBA from Henley Business School and is currently completing a Masters in Digital Business at Wits Business School.
