Eskom has announced a heightened level of load-shedding, escalating from its previous schedule, with stage 2 load-shedding now expected daily between 05:00 and 16:00. The decision follows Eskom’s warning of an imminent forced shutdown of two generating units on Tuesday morning.
The increased load-shedding, set to commence at 09:00 on Tuesday, reflects the challenges faced by the state-owned power utility in maintaining a stable power supply. Eskom reassured the public that it would closely monitor the system and promptly communicate any significant changes.
In an earlier statement on Sunday, Eskom had expressed its intention to implement a rotating schedule of stage 1 and stage 3 power cuts throughout the week. The power utility had optimistically anticipated the return of approximately 3,700MW of generating capacity to service by Tuesday evening.
As the situation unfolds, Eskom continues to grapple with operational issues, emphasizing the need for ongoing vigilance and cooperation from consumers to navigate the current power supply challenges.
