Bothaville, November 13, 2023 – In a swift response to a cash-in-transit heist in Batho, Bloemfontein, law enforcement agencies across Free State collaborated to apprehend six suspects in a high-stakes operation. The culprits, aged between 35 and 45, were arrested near Bothaville, with authorities seizing automatic rifles and a significant amount of cash.
The daring heist unfolded earlier today, prompting the activation of a 72-hour plan as police stations throughout Free State were put on high alert. A white bakkie, resembling a construction vehicle with Gauteng Province registration plates, was spotted heading towards Welkom/Allanridge and Bothaville road.
Welkom Flying Squad, Welkom K9 Unit, Allanridge SAPS members, and private security personnel joined forces, initiating a pursuit that led to a dramatic confrontation in front of Bothaville SAPS officers, led by Lt Col Kruger.
At approximately 14:45, about 20 km towards Bothaville, the suspects were cornered, and the driver was instructed to halt the vehicle. The six occupants, hailing from Boksburg, Benoni, Tembisa, Springs, and Soshanguve, were swiftly taken into custody.
The white bakkie, equipped with a yellow light on top, concealed automatic rifles beneath it, adding a layer of sophistication to the criminal operation. The suspects, aged 35, 39, 40, 44, and 45, are currently under investigation for their alleged involvement in the cash-in-transit heist.
